Coal City is the best bike shop. Whether you need new gear, a new bike, trail recommendations, a couple of PSI added to your tires, or just want someone knowledgeable to patiently explain how to swap your pedals for the third (or fourth) time—this is where you should go. Robin is endlessly helpful when it comes to figuring out what you want (and need) in a bike, and all of the staff do an amazing job of taking care of it once you have it. They’re consistently friendly, enthusiastically supportive, and quick to repair every bent derailleur or pull off a last-minute, post-crash tune-up I’ve brought in. I always trust that I’m leaving my bike in the best hands. I first visited Coal City for help putting air in my wheelchair tires and Patrick quickly figured out the correct PSI. His kindness and respect made me feel welcome in a space where I initially felt I didn’t belong. My second time there was to buy my first mountain bike—and a year later, I was back to upgrade to my second. It’s a place where you can count on exceptional service and genuine expertise. Whether you’re a seasoned rider, just starting out, or even if you’re not sure you belong in a bike shop, they’ll make you feel at home. I can’t recommend them enough.

A huge thank you to Robin and the whole team at Coal City Cycles on Bowen Road in Nanaimo for taking such great care of our family’s bikes! Everyone at the shop was incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming. As a mum who doesn’t know much about bikes or what to purchase, I really appreciated how easy they made the whole experience. We worked with Brian to purchase my daughter’s bike, and he took the time to explain everything clearly, making sure we got exactly what we needed. I highly recommend Coal City Cycles for their excellent service and friendly, knowledgeable staff!

This is by far the best bike shop I’ve ever dealt with. I have had two bikes serviced here and both times there was a quick discussion about needs, a follow up call after and inspection with options for suggested repairs and both times they fixed up little things I had no idea was a problem at no additional charge. They even supplied me with some scrap tires to use for extra grip on the kids power wheels for free when I wasn’t there shopping for anything else. Great service and amazing team. Will be back for sure.

Had an amazing experience with Coal City! I hadn't had a bike in over two decades and felt pretty foolish walking in, knowing absolutely nothing about bikes. Christina made me feel so welcome with her enthusiasm and I was really impressed with her knowledge. She didn't make me feel dumb for asking silly questions and was great in helping me pick a bike that was appropriate for me. Robin, the owner, gave me a killer deal! They even got me set up with how to join a local cycling club! Coal City just made me into a loyal customer!

Best bike shop in Nanaimo! I've been going there for years and purchased my e-assist bike there. It came with life time complementary tune ups which is a real bonus. Patrick and the other staff are friendly, experienced, efficient and happy to help me understand my bike. I highly recommend Coal City Cycles for all of your cycling needs!

Holy Mackerel, this is my favourite bike shop now! Just rolled through town on holiday and these guys looked at, diagnosed and fixed my derailleur problem in 15 minutes...on the spot! Also taught me new skills of evaluation. I'm stoked on this shop! Smart business move to offer such exemplary service (and no upselling of an e-bike, which is prevalent these days) because they are building customers for life :) *eyes up new gravel bikes
